MONDAY, FEBRUARY 26 SPEAKERS
Executive Editor Shelly Lowenkopf
and Literary Agent Toni Lopopolo
Are you writing what 21st Century readers crave?
In a special joint speaker meeting, literary agent Toni Lopopolo and renown editor Shelly Lowenkopf will give you the info you need to grab a reader’s attention from the first page.
Are your characters cheating on you?
We all know that characters have to have an agenda, but maybe your characters don't want enough. Ask yourself if your character has what it takes to be a monomaniac, because yes, every memorable character from Mrs. Dalloway and Anne of Green Gables, down to Holden Caulfield, Huck Finn and even The Girl On The Train, Gone Girl, want more than a little.
And maybe you don't remember Inspector Javert from Les Miserables, or Captain Ahab from Moby Dick. But millions of readers do, and hundreds of literary agents and book editors are in on that one. Maybe your characters don't want enough. If you listen, Toni and Shelly can help.
With due apologies to President Trump, how big is your feature character's conscience?
Conscience is the place you have to visit, because that's the most important aspect of your character. After ten minutes of listening to Toni's C-E-N formula for constructing each character in your story, you'll see the change in your characters behavior and the way agents and editors respond to your material. You won't get C-E-N from anyone but Toni and Shelly, so listen up.
Bring a list of your questions: this duo has all the answers.
